Monty, our wonderful foster got a loving home. Here is the note to the new owner:

We decided to take Monty home to foster after we met him at Joyce’s house. We were only planning to take one foster dog home, but we couldn’t help it; he looked at us with those puppy-dog eyes and it was all over.

Monty came to Joyce on Labor Day, and then was sent to Mt. SAC. Joyce got a call from them shortly after and they explained that Monty seemed ill. So she got Monty, and took him to the vet only to find that he had been faking sick. So Monty went back to live with Joyce, and then to later move in with us.

Monty was not in the best of shape. He had low muscle mass and was very skinny. His coat was dry and flaky, and he had blackheads on his belly.  He tended to be grouchy with the other dogs and very low energy.

Monty perked up right away after a few days with his thyroid pills. We treated him for his dandruff problem, and his coat became glossy. He was very unsure about dinner, always surrendering it to us if we moved while he ate. He was reluctant to leave the house, possibly in fear of being moved to another home, due to his constant location change.

He thrived at our house; we couldn’t believe how fast he was improving. We no longer had to encourage him to eat dinner and we would catch him playing with toys now and then. He would even playfully interact with the other dogs, rather then snapping at them. He became less protective of his bed and would let us cuddle with him. He was gaining weight and muscle from our daily walks.

To this day he is very apprehensive about getting in the car. He frequently visited PETCO and Auntie Katy’s (The GPA rep. who lives down the street.)

Today Monty is a very happy boy. We believe that he is forgetting whatever pain he may have had in his past. The lethargic dog that we first received has now transformed and blossomed into a bouncing, running, loving greyhound.

We are very happy that you are taking Monty to your home. He is a very special grey and we hope that he continues to prosper and thrive for the rest of his retirement days.
